Sainte-Chapelle Paryż

Z mieszkania przy ulicy Rue de la Fontaine-au-Roi ruszamy dość wcześniej, na dziś zaplanowane mamy zwiedzanie wyspy Cite, najstarszej części Paryża. Dostaniemy się tam metrem z placu Republiki, zieloną linią 11 dojedziemy do stacji Châtelet. Od wyspy dzieli nas Pont au Change. Mijamy pierwszy publiczny zegar w Paryżu, ten na  budynku Conciergerie. Dalej prosto, na ulicy Boulevard du Palais znajduje się Święta Kaplica.

Święta Kaplica to przykład architektury gotyckiej, mamy tu wysokie sklepienia, strzeliste wieże, łuki, witraże. Kaplica powstała z inicjatywy króla Ludwika IX, który znalazł się w 1293 w posiadaniu korony cierniowej i innych relikwii chrześcijańskich. Największe wrażenie robi 15 witraży o łącznej powierzchni 618 m². Witraże mają 15 m wysokości i przedstawiają głównie sceny ze Starego i Nowego Testamentu. Witraż na przeciwko wejścia przedstawia historię zdobycia relikwii przez króla Ludwika IX. Nie mieliśmy okazji zobaczyć Kaplicy w pełnym słońcu, ale i tak widok był niesamowity. We are leaving our cosy apartment at Rue de la Fontaine-au-Roi quite early as today we are planning to visit Cite Island, the oldest area of Paris. We get there by underground from Republique Square. There is a direct green line numer 11 to Châtelet. To get to the Island we need to cross the Pont au Change. Passing by the first public clock at the Conciergerie building we are going along the Boulevard du Palais.

The Sainte-Chapelle represent the gothic style, we can see here tall design, pointed arches, vauluted ceilings and colourful stained-glass windows. The Chapel was founded by French king Louis IX who in 1293 was in posession of  Christ's Crown of Thorns and needed a proper place to keep it. The stained-glass interior is amazing.  There are 15 stained-glass windows, 618 m² in total. They show scenes from the Old and New Testament. The first window, opposite the entrance shows the story how Louis IX got the great relics. We didn't have a chance to see the interior in a full sun, but the view was amazing anyway.
